Fear of loosing is my weakness!
You go on to say that, “what is the point of training if I am going to fail anyway?” I wish I could say that you are alone, but sadly, many people suffer from that. FEAR is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that something dangerous is likely to cause you pain. The source of fear is our own imagination. The acronym of fear is, False Expectations Appearing Real. The greatest barrier to success is fear of failure. The opposite to fear is Courage and Faith. Courage and Faith is taking the first step, even, when you don’t see the whole staircase. Thomas Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up”. Fear of failure disappears when you realize it can’t save you. I say this because I quote from my studies of the Art of War particularly the Greek strategy. The story goes like this; When ancient Greek armies traveled across the sea to do battle, the first thing they would do after landing was to burn their boats, leaving them stranded. With no way to make it home besides victory, the determination of the soldiers was strengthened. When success and failure are the only options, you have no choice but to follow through. If you have a goal, but are afraid to commit, force yourself into action by burning the boats. Send an entry form and pay for a tournament in advance if you want to play a tournament. Set a deadline to achieve a certain goal and put the training time in. I repeat…‘Fear of failure disappears when you realize it can’t save you‘. Failure plays a big part in your success. It is part and parcel of your success. The best way to reduce fear and build confidence is taking action. As soon as you do, you’ll begin accumulating experience and knowledge. Everything is hardest the first time. It’s like jumping off a cliff into a lake — after you do it once, and you see that the water is safe, each time afterwards is easy. Start off with small steps and build up your confidence until the fear of failure is manageable. Anyway, what is the worst thing that could happen?
There are many quotes on failure, but just a few of my favorite ones:-
♦ “Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up”
♦ “The only true failure in life is not, to try and fail, but, to fail to try”
♦ “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure”. and lastly,
♦ “Success builds character whereas failure reveals it”.
The action you took to inquire about your fear of failure, is already a step forward towards overcoming it. I commend you!
